The best I can tell, only about 5% of the homes in Albuquerque have basements. Why is this? I don't really have a great answer, but I think one of the reasons is that since we don't have severe storms like they do in places like Oklahoma and Kansas, we've never needed storm cellars.
The highest percentage of homes with basements is probably found in the older downtown area. There are some basement homes sprinkled throughout the northeast heights, and there are even some in areas of Northwest Albuquerque.
