One of the most popular areas west of the Rio Grande is the NW Heights. The area is located west of Coors Blvd to Unser Blvd, from Paseo Del Norte south to Western Trail and is generally called Taylor Ranch.
The Northwest Heights covers a wide geographical area and has a MLS area to itself. While many homes in the area are older, built in the 1970's and 1980's, in popular areas such as Santa Fe Village, there are newer homes in the area too. Examples of newer homes include homes built in the early 2000's just west of Coors Blvd at Dellyne Ave by Virgil Gil, custom homes that are located north of Montano Rd. and west of San Ildefonso Dr. and homes near St Pius High School in the neighborhood called Oxbow. The homes in The Northwest Heights Area are almost all in the 87120 zip code.
In general, the Northwest Heights is an affordable neighborhood with modest sized homes. The average home sales price over the last year was $212,000, with a low sale of $65,000 and a high sale of $755,000. 11% of the sales were REO sales (frequently called foreclosures), and 6.5% of the home sales were short sales.
The area is known for its popular schools including Marie Hughes, Chapparal and Chamiza elementary schools, Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) Middle School and Volcano Vista High School
